Autumnal Greek Wedding at the Hay-Adams
Anna and Eli were married on a perfect, blustery October day in Washington, DC. Anna is Greek, and they were married in a traditional Greek ceremony at St Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In a first for us (and the cathedral!), Anna chose to process to the ceremony as her acestors in Greece would have done. By walking "through the town" escorted by musicians, to meet her groom outside of the church. We had the guests wait outside of the church, and a Greek percussionist and violinist escorted Anna, her parents, the Koumbari, and bridesmaids up the sidewalk to the church where Eli awaited her! Then, they moved inside for the Betrothal where the Priest blessed their rings and they walked down the aisle together for the ceremony. After the ceremonysunlight, the was glorious as they took some photos across the street at the Bishop's Garden. At the Hay-Adams, we worked with autumn tones of burgundy, plum, olive, and peach, and the amazing Sidra Forman worked her magic in creating stunning floral arrangements. We also incorporated fruits, like figs, grapes and cherries as accent pieces. Anna's gown by Mira Zwillinger has delicate trailing leaves, and we used this motif throughout the wedding, from the letter pressed invitation suite, to the day-of paper, the show plates featured delicate leaves, as well as sculpted sugar flowers the wedding cake.
